Fashion Week for Everyone

Fashion Month is here! September is my favourite time of year because all the new releases and there is so much going on! New York Fashion Week is coming 10th September and I cannot wait.

One of the things that I am most looking forward to Is the Givenchy show as they are always spectacular, however this year Riccardo Tisci has done something that I think is so progressive and will open the fashion industry up to be more approachable for everyone.

On September 11th the Spring Summer 2016 show will be shown in New York not Paris and will be open to the public as well as the usual accompaniment of press, buyers, celebrities and of course bloggers with 1,200 tickets going on sale.

The Parisian couture house is teaming up with tourism organization NYCgo to release 820 tickets on a first-come, first-served basis so keep your eyes peeled if you’re in the area and keep checking their social media/ website!

I think this is such a break through idea because the fashion industry is always closed off and private. I think this keeps a certain level of class to the events which I understand, however, for someone like me who is trying to break into such an elite industry it is very difficult.

Opening such a prestigious event up to the lucky 1200 is such a great idea because maybe some people who are looking for that chance to get into fashion will find their way or maybe even some stereotypical grumpy old white man who thinks fashion is a hobby and not a career (and by god I’ve met a few of those!) will get to see the worlds best event first hand. All the chaos of backstage, the past 6 months’ hard work creating breath taking garments, and all the buzz surrounding it with bloggers, photographers, stylists all making a living off the same industry.

Previously the only event that has been opened up to the public and essentially the world was the live streaming of Alexander McQueen’s last show Plato’s Atlantis in 2010, which subsequently crashed the website because they weren’t expecting the flood of people who all wanted to watch.

I would kill to be there! But that’s not going to happen anytime soon and not having a passport also doesn’t help so I will watch from behind my laptop screen.

Here are some pictures of previous shows (none are my own) if you’re not aware of the brand and the gorgeous collections they have produced.
